Ouch

Well the last couple days I have been waking up with more pain than usual...UGH...I was doing so good.  So I called and talked to the Dr.'s assistant today and while on the phone, I remembered having dreams about the splint bothering me, not necessarily about the splint but having something stuck in my mouth. I had these dreams at the beginning too...only in those dreams I was dreaming I had bubble gum stuck to my teeth.  Anyway, she thinks that I may be grinding my teeth in my sleep. So they called in a muscle relaxer...I really hope not to wake up in pain in the morning.

Just over 2 weeks until I get the splint removed!  I can't wait! I'm a little nervous about actually biting into food.  And I'm nervous about getting my teeth cleaned.  I'm sure it will all be fine...the thoughts/anxiety are always worse than the actual event.

  1. I get my splint out next week and then go straight to the orthodontist. I'm so nervous, but I cant wait to eat more food! Glad that you are doing well...I actually had the dream about getting gum stuck in my splint last night too! (I never chewed gum before the surgery either though, because of the arthritis in my jaw :-/) are you able to open your mouth pretty well without your joints getting stuck at all?

  2. Yeah, I can open about 2 fingers with the rubberbands on. Your joints are "getting stuck"? Ouch...like you can't close? I do have a point that my jaw just says...I will not open any further than ;) What type of foods are you eating?

As far as the gum...that's wierd you were dreaming about it too. I haven't had gum in over 2 years.

How are you doing being back at work? I'm doing ok. I'm tired at the end of the night but just not able to fall asleep. I've always been a night owl but I need some sleep. I took my sleep aid and a muscle relaxer an hour ago and still wide awake!

Are you taking classes too or did you take the semester off? How are you feeling overall? Remind me what your surgery consisted of? After reading so many blogs...it's hard to keep up. I had the lower jaw moved forward, genioplasty (and lipo ;) LOL!

  3. lol...yea my jaw on the right side gets stuck, feels like it's catching...it hurts. I had the lower jaw advanced, genio, upper jaw brought forward and up and widened. I had it all lol. My job is extremely physically demanding, I'm a dog groomer and got hit in the jaw on a daily basis...you can go 8 or 9 hours (sometimes more) without a break, and you have to talk to customers almost constantly...soo needless to say I'm still off. I get a total of 7 weeks off. I keep busy but the days that I do stuff I end up with a headache and extremely tired by the end of the day. I'll be taking classes next semester...sooo..I have nothing to do for another few weeks...I'm enjoying it though, my job really stresses me out. What do you do at work? do you have to talk alot?

  4. WOW! That is great that you get to take 7 weeks off...I can't even imagine being hit in the face! Just the thought of it makes me cringe! I am an Office Manager for a Landscape Architecture firm downtown. Everyone has been really great at answering the phone...with the splint in my mouth it's harder to talk, as you know. We are down to a 4 day work week and I am really glad, because by Thursday, I'm really tired.

Hope that they figure out while your jaw in locking and getting headaches. Look forward to hearing from you. Enjoy your time off...I'm so jealous ;-)

  5. Hey, you two!

@corey: That's awesome that you got so much time off. I'm sure that will be plenty of time to recover.

@Jackie: I totally relate with the teeth grinding, although I'm not sure if I'm still doing it now. I'm feeling more pain in my jaw, but I'm hoping it's nothing more than my nerves waking up! That splint has got to be a pain...is it like a retainer?

  7. I don't know yet...I get it of today at 4:00! I can't wait! Is it wierd without it and having your teeth come together differently? I'm so excited...just 2 more hours!

Hey George! How are you doing? You have posted an update in a few weeks. Please let us know how you are.
